Hooray for Summer!

If you are like us you are excited for summer, not just because summer shoes are so cute and comfy, but because you're tired of sorting and searching for matching socks! Am I right? Summer is a great time to feel the earth under your bare feet, but what do you look for in an ideal summer shoe when you need something more? Let us help guide you toward summer shoe bliss!

When considering summer shoes for your little one keep age, development, and activity in mind. Younger babies and developing walkers will have differing shoe choices and needs than more active bigger kids.

1. Toe Protection: Little toes can be pretty tender. When looking for toddler sandals, you'll want to protect their toes with a closed-toe or peep-toe shoe. A closed-toe shoe will prevent stubs, scrapes, and debris from entering the shoe and hurting little feet. Save the open-toes shoes for big kids and grown-ups!

2. Back Buffer: Look for a sandal with a closed back, this will protect the heel and ankle. Plus it will help the shoe to remain securely on squirmy, active little feet!

3. Materials: Opt for natural, breathable materials when selecting any shoes for your child. Leather makes a beautiful choice for a durable shoe. Canvas is a great choice for infants and developing walkers. Nylon is great when water is involved, as these will dry the quickest. Steer away from non-breathable plastics, especially for younger children.

4. Traction: The biggest thing you'll want to avoid is slips and falls, especially on the pool deck! Look for a rubber sole with lots of channels for water wicking. Suede is a great option for younger babies to gain traction indoors.

5. Comfort: Whether at the beach, the pool, or your own backyard, your child will be most comfortable in shoes or sandals that allow a little air to get their toes. Be sure to choose shoes that won't constrict their natural movements and allow their toes to wiggle freely.

Whatever you choose, be sure to stay hydrated, wear your sunblock and and have fun!

Tips for Buying Baby's First Shoes

For the first year, the best shoes are no shoes. But let's be realistic, what doting new parent (auntie, grandpa, or bestie) doesn't want to see that little one in adorable tiny shoes?! So how do you choose the best for those little tootsies? Let us break it down for you, offer our insight and suggestions...

When learning to cruise or walk, feeling the ground beneath her feet will help your baby learn to balance. You'll want to choose shoes that mimic being barefooted. Also, it's a misbelief that ankle support is needed, when in fact it may hinder your baby's natural range of motion. Pass on the high-tops for now and let his muscles develop and strengthen on their own.

Here are three more things to keep in mind when shopping for shoes:

Flexibility: Baby's first shoes should move with them, through every little twist, turn, and wiggle.

Breathability: Choose shoes made of breathable fabrics and leathers. These allow air to circulate and provide the best flexibility. Avoid plastics! (No matter how cute they are!)

Roominess: New shoes should always allow for growth and wiggles, we usually recommend 1/4 inch  of space or about the size of an adults pinky. This allows for natural movements within the shoe and plenty of growing time to ooh and aah!

The Spring 09 collection of Robeez Soft Soles and Mini Shoes are NOW in stock at TinySoles.
